Ripples of the Okavango

Winner at the Centurion Art Association Annual Artist of the Year Award 2026 in the category Photography. 

I am drawn to spontaneous moments when travelling in nature, moments that are not planned, but simply appear and invite you to look.

While travelling through the Okavango Delta in Botswana, I saw this boat moving away from us in the still water, and I captured the moment as it happened. Its wake breaks the reflections on the surface, creating repetitive lines and shifting shapes that transform the water into an abstract composition.

For me, the photograph reflects the theme Reflections both literally and visually. The water holds a reflection of the world around it, while the movement of the boat constantly changes and distorts that reflection. It is a reminder that reflections are never completely still; they shift with movement, light and perspective.

Travelling through wild places allows me to experience these fleeting moments and the camera in my hand gives me a way to expressing what I see and feel.
