South African artist Ben Macala was born in Bloemfontein, Orange Free State and lived from 1937-1997. He was a painter and sculpture that focussed on figures and his very recognisable style of Picasso-like portraits with large eyes, often accompanied by musical instruments such as the flute. His preferred mediums of charcoal and pastel on paper made it easy for him to interpret his subject matter in a loose and free drawing style.
He also created artworks in oil, bronze and stone. Ben is also renowned in Germany, Greece and New York, not only south Africa where he had exhibitions. Owning one of his works will enhance your profile as an art collector and connoisseur.
