My inspiration was the colorized Vintage photos in the book “The Boer War” by Tinus le Roux. However, I chose a black and white family photo as a source. It is a sweet reminder of a very special family holiday to celebrate my Grandparents’ 50^th Wedding anniversary.

I hope to retain the dreamlike memory and evoke the passage of time by using the softness of pastels.

I feel that the scene is as relevant today as it was 40 years ago. This family gathering reminds me of the importance of family in our country. And of our love of a “lekker kuier en braai”.
