Winner of the Centurion Art Association Annual Artist of the Year Award 2026 in the category Sculpture.

The artwork portrays an elderly person looking back over their life, reflecting on moments of happiness, regret, love, loss, and change. At the end of our life, we all have to look in the mirror at who we are.

Within this circle are memories of fond moments, lost opportunities, mistakes, important decisions, and the people who have shaped our lives.

We have to reflect on why some people remain with us for many years, while others leave our lives through distance, separation, or death. This is symbolised by the open chair. Their absence becomes part of our story.

Looking back on a lifetime can bring both comfort and sadness. There are moments we wish we could relive, opportunities we wish we had taken, and mistakes we wish we could undo. Yet these experiences are all part of becoming who we are. The artwork suggests that life is not defined only by what we achieved, but also by the relationships, experiences, choices, and memories that shaped us.
