The title ESP stands for "Eskom Se Push" the app that many South Africans use when there is load-shedding. In the painting the butterflies represent the average South African citizen struggling through the dark forest with only their lamps to light the way. Climate change has a major impact on energy supply. Higher temperatures caused by climate change increases the need for air-conditioning and the larger demand for electricity places pressure on the electricity grid, which may lead to outages and load shedding. Climate crisis also leads to extreme weather events which may entail colder than normal winters which again places a heavy demand on the electricity grid which may lead to load-shedding.
